Freeze Expired Bread & Tortillas
My Mom taught me this one! Throw your bread in the freezer when it’s nearing expiration so you don’t have to throw it away. Bread from the freezer is perfectly good and it keeps it from going to waste. Whenever I buy english muffins I actually slice them all right away and then freeze them for easy grabbing later!
Freeze Fruits & Vegetables Nearing Expiration
Just like saving the bread, I try to save some fruits and vegetables that are getting old. There are so many that can be frozen and tossed in smoothies. I typically save berries, bananas, spinach, and kale. Any produce can really be put in the freezer!
Limit Produce
Produce that can be purchased individually is a huge help for someone like myself. My Mom used to laugh when she would shop with me because I would literally buy one orange at a time. If you know you won’t finish larger amounts of fruits and veggies, reduce the amount you buy at once.
Buy Frozen Fruits & Vegetables
I know that fresh produce is probably the better choice, but frozen is more cost effective and it doesn’t go to waste. And let’s face it, frozen foods are just much easier to prepare and can save a lot of time in the kitchen.
Wash & Cut Your Produce
You’ve heard this one before but it can definitely be helpful. Having things ready to grab in the refrigerator is more appealing than having to wash and cut things when you decide you want them. Do whatever you need to do to make sure that you grab the produce when you open that refrigerator! Otherwise, we all know exactly where it goes.
