Let’s talk about the scale. There are a lot of people that get rid of their scale, put it away for a year, or don’t even want to buy one because weighing yourself can be a negative thing. If you are one of these people you are absolutely not wrong, it CAN be a negative thing to do, but it doesn’t have to be.
I weigh myself pretty much every single day, and no matter what the scale says, I still have the desire to step on it every morning to start my day. Why? Because I am motivated whether my weight is higher, lower, or the same. If it’s higher, I know I need to do better and maybe try something different or simply reflect on what I did wrong the day prior. If it’s lower, I know I’m on the right track and am more determined to have another on track day. If my weight remains the same from one day to the next (which is completely normal), I’m motivated to get past that plateau and push myself.
You certainly need to have the right mindset if you want to weigh yourself every day, because it can be a frustrating thing and it is not something you want to get caught up in. We all probably get frustrated when the scale isn’t showing us the number we want to see or the number we think it should be, but it’s a great way to get motivated every day! When the scale is “wrong,” which it always is (lol) I have my quick moment of frustration and continue on with my day with more determination.
Now just because I weigh myself every day, doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone. I do it because it works for me and I have a lot of weight to lose. I know that the number on the scale should be going down if I’m doing things right. When I reach a healthy weight for my age and height I may decide to give up the scale, but what I’m doing right now works for me.
Our weight absolutely does not define us and no one should get caught up in the number on the scale. For me at this point in my journey, it’s about getting healthy. When the scale shows a lower number, I know I am that many pounds closer to healthy.
